Optimise your Instagram profile: are you ready for September?

Optimise your Instagram profile: are you ready for September?

August is the month when profiles go quiet, feeds slow down and bios stay the same for months. September, on the other hand, is when everything starts again – new customers are searching, comparing and judging in seconds.

Before the return to work sweeps you away, take twenty minutes and do just one thing: look at your profile as if you were a customer discovering you for the first time. What you see is what sells – or what holds you back.

First impressions: bio and profile

When someone lands on your profile, they have three seconds to decide whether to stay or go. Your profile picture must be sharp and recognisable even at small sizes – not a pixelated logo or a blurry photo. Your account name should include your brand name, not just a creative username that says nothing.

Your bio is the most valuable space you have: two lines to explain what you do, who you do it for and what the reader should do next. If your bio currently just says “Communication agency — Perugia”, there’s room for improvement. A clear call to action – “Message us for a quote”, “Discover our services” – makes the difference between a profile that converts and one that just gets visited.

Check your contact details too: email and phone number visible, business category set correctly. Small details that many people overlook for months.

The link in bio: where are you sending people?

The link in bio is the only place where Instagram lets you take people off the platform. Yet it often leads to a generic homepage, to a page that no longer exists or, worse, it hasn’t been updated for a year.

Before September, click on the link yourself. Does it work? Does it lead to the right page? If you use a link page such as Linktree, check that all the links are active and that the items match what you offer today – not what you offered six months ago.

The feed: what does it say about you?

Open your profile and look at your last nine posts as if you were seeing them for the first time. Do they give a clear idea of who you are and what you offer? Is there visual consistency – palette, style, type of content – or does it look like a random collage?

It’s not about having an “aesthetically perfect” feed in the Instagram sense of the word. It’s about making sure people who land on your profile understand what you do in five seconds. If your latest posts include last Christmas’s promotion, a grainy photo and three identical posts, it’s time to act.

Also check the balance between promotional content and valuable content. A feed that only talks about offers and prices gets tiring – and doesn’t engage. The ideal ratio is around 80% useful or storytelling content, 20% direct promotion.

September is prepared now

The most common mistake is waiting until 1 September to start thinking about content. At that point you post in a rush, without a strategy, and it shows.

Decide now on at least three themes or topics you want to focus on during the month. Set a realistic posting frequency – better three consistent posts a week than ten in a row followed by two weeks of silence. Write down the ideas you have in mind: that post you’ve been wanting to do for months, that story you’ve already filmed and never used, that offer you want to promote for the return to work.

Those who arrive in September with a plan – even a simple one – are already ahead of those who improvise.

Sometimes it’s hard to assess your own profile objectively – you know it too well to see it the way a stranger does. If you’d like an outside analysis, we at Graphx Studio will do it free of charge and with no obligation.
